the evil eye

I am not much into ethnic jewelry but having grown up with the "evil eye", which is widely popular in middle-eastern cultures, I can't help but own a few of these charms.

This adorable tiny "evil eye" was a gift from Turkey. The bright red silk band gives it more life and I love the color contrast against my gold Nixon "Time Teller" watch.

It's all about making a statement with the most minimalistic combination.

metal lace

I have a "thing" for filigree jewelry! It's so intricate and pretty. Today, I am wearing these gold earrings that could be described as a modern take on filigree. They are fun and I love the simple circular shape.

What you see above is real filigree and I am pretty much obsessed with the level of artisanship that it takes to create something so beautiful.

There is something so mystical in the patterns and all the twists and turns of the metal... like a harsher take on lace.

once upon a time

Today, I am wearing one of my favorite pieces. This beauty is a vintage locket by "Coro" circa 1947.

I bought it a few years back from an antique dealer. I fell in love with its romantic and ultra feminine design. The front of the locket is adorned with turquoise beads, pearls and red crystals while the back has very simple floral engraving. It opens up like a blooming flower and has space for four photos, which I have yet to fill!

I was lucky to later find a long chain that perfectly matched the look and feel of the locket.

I look at it and wonder who it belonged to... whose photos have been inside each compartment... where it has been... and how it ended up in my jewelry box.

Once upon a time, this locket belonged to someone else but now it's mine.
